“Highly recommend this guided tour! Our tour guide was amazing, the trek was tough at first and you do need good trainers or it, as it had been raining in the morning so was a bit mucky. We stopped for a drink after about 2 hours, and then after about another 2 hours we had lunch which was great too! Transport was also arranged for us to get back to Sa Pa. Some reviews mention about the local woman following you for the trek and asking you to buy things and for money. This is true, however after you stop for the drink after a couple of hours they don’t…”

“Our guide Ku was wonderful, we really enjoyed her commentary about local life. The accommodations were good, the scenery was beautiful and the swim at the waterfall was totally awesome. The only reason for 4 stars were the very aggressive local women trying to sell you things. They insisted in "helping" along the trail and then applied heavy guilt trips if you didn't buy from every single "helper" ( we bought one expensive thing from one woman and a couple of little things but then said no to the others). It really spoiled the experience of interacting with the locals.”

Trek from Lao Chai to Ta Van for a small-group day in Sapa, with village lunch, rice terraces, and a hands-on incense lesson.

“We had a really lovely day out with Lam, and got very lucky with good weather. Our only little note for other travellers to consider, is that other villagers are extremely persistent in selling their wares, not only in the market place/ towns/ road side but will actually follow you on long portions of the trail. We had someone follow us for several hours, walking along side who after we’d said “no thanks to” many times we were told by other villagers she’d only come with us to try and sell, and would now be walking back many hours to find other people to do it all again.”

★★★★★★★★★★4.4 · 327 reviews · 9 hours · from $26

9-hour day trip from Ninh Binh to Cuc Phuong National Park, with a primate rescue visit, rainforest hike to Cay Cho tree, caves, and lunch.

“We were picked up from our hostel by the very kind and accommodating Nam, who told us about the local culture on the drive to Cuc Phuong. He met us at each stop as we walked with Hoa, a local ranger, who was informative about the monkey enclosure, Prehistoric Man's Cave, and Cuc Phuong forest. The monkeys were very cute, and the enterprise seems very ethical and eco-friendly - a foreign vet was consulting with a local worker about one of the monkehs while we were there. Hoa told us stories about his 30 years with the park and was a great guide. The food was a little lukewarm at…”
