The only reason for 4 stars were the very aggressive local women trying to sell you things. They insisted in "helping" along the trail and then applied heavy guilt trips if you didn't buy from every single "helper" ( we bought one expensive thing from one woman and a couple of little things but then said no to the others). “We had a really lovely day out with Lam, and got very lucky with good weather. Our only little note for other travellers to consider, is that other villagers are extremely persistent in selling their wares, not only in the market place/ towns/ road side but will actually follow you on long portions of the trail. We had someone follow us for several hours, walking along side who after we’d said “no thanks to” many times we were told by other villagers she’d only come with us to try and sell, and would now be walking back many hours to find other people to do it all again.”

“1. check the weather first, if possible. if it's not sunny, you are losing a lot of beutiful photo chances. 2. it's relaxing, but not challenging nor exciting 3. homestay isnt "home stay" in a strict sense. it's just another name for a lodge. 4. foods at hotel was great, but foods at homestay wasnt. 5. important information is not given often. you have to ask.”

“we simply had the best day. there was zero visability, zero, and we still had the most amazing day because of our guide. she was so smiley and had the best laugh, was happy to talk about her life and gave so much insight into the different villages cultures and customs. the hike itself was brilliant and i'm sure the views on a clear day would be breathtaking as the little bit we could see here and there was beautiful. i hope to come back in june/july sometime to get the full sapa in bloom experience. i wouldnt go if there was rain promised but if its dry definitely book!”
